How is a FAR Part 135 air taxi operator different from a FAR part 91.147 operator?

  1. All pilots and mechanics must be routinely drug tested.
  2. All pilots must pass a strict annual check ride.
  3. All helicopters and facilities must meet higher standards.
  4. FAA inspections are performed in a more stringent and frequent manner.
  5. All pilots must adhere to and record strict regulations on duty time.

Our Aircraft

Helicopter Experts, Inc. operates the following helicopters for charters and flight training:

Robinson R-22 - One Passenger

Robinson R-22 in Flight

The Robinson R-22 helicopter is ideal for helicopter charters and pilot training. It is a modern helicopter that can carry one pilot and one passenger. It has a proven record of reliability and speed, making it the largest produced helicopter in the world.

The reliable Lycoming O-320 series engine powers the R-22. The four-cylinder, air-cooled engine produces 160 horsepower, but is derated to 124 (MCP). The R-22 has a maximum speed of 102 knots (118 MPH) and with adequate fuel and two people, will cruise at 85 knots (100 MPH) for about two and a half hours. It is ideal for charters and aerial photography; we will remove your door at your request for an unobstructed photo.

This aircraft is our primary choice for pilot training since the console is easy for both the student and instructor to access. Being a small, piston-powered helicopter, the student must become familiar with the operation of the throttle for RPM control, which increases the skillset required to operate helicopters of other designs.

The R-22 is very sensitive on the control touch and pilot control input skills are quickly acquired, resulting in increased piloting abilities, which aid well during the transition to other helicopter makes and models.

The maximum seat weight per passenger is limited to 240 pounds.

Bell 47 - Two Passengers

Bell 47 Helicopter

The Bell 47 is powered by the reliable Lycoming VO-540 series engine. The six-cylinder, air-cooled engine produces 280 horsepower and is derated to 220 (MCP). It is equipped with a standard VFR panel for primary flight training with a GPS.

The Bell 47 is ideal for aerial photography and flight training since the aircraft has ample visibility and is stable and easy to fly. It can carry one pilot and two passengers side by side at a speed of about 80 MPH or with a full load of passengers and maximum fuel at an average speed of 75 MPH for two and a half hours.

Passengers can talk to each other through a voice-activated intercom system with Bose headsets and music can be played upon request. We can remove the doors as well for a clear, unobstructed view.

The maximum cabin weight is 550 pounds, with no weight limit for each individual.

Robinson R-44 Raven

The R-44 is powered by the reliable Lycoming O-540 series engine. The six-cylinder, air-cooled engine produces 260 horsepower, but is derated to 205 (MCP).

The R-44 is ideal for helicopter charters and tours since the aircraft can carry one pilot and three passengers in quiet comfort at a maximum speed of 130 knots (140 MPH) for two hours or with a full load of passengers at maximum fuel at an average speed of 115 knots (132 MPH) for two and a half hours. It is also ideal for aerial photography missions since we can remove the doors for a clear, unobstructed view.

The R-44 is equipped with a full panel for instrument flight training, which is required for our commercial and instrument courses. Passengers can talk to each other through a voice-activated intercom system, and music can be played upon request.

The maximum seat weight per passenger is limited to 300 pounds.
